As Executive Director, Nell Bailey serves as RESNA's chief executive, operating officer and everyday "Face of RESNA." Ms. Bailey reports to the President and Board of Directors and has responsibility for the management and direction of all operations, programs, activities and affairs of the organization. Prior to being elevated to the position of Executive Director, Ms. Bailey served over 16 years as Director of a federally-funded national technical assistance project that provides support and coordination to Assistive Technology Act Programs (56 statewide AT Programs, 33 Alternative Financing Programs and 57 Protection and Advocacy for AT Programs). These programs are authorized under the Assistive Technology Act of 1998, as amended and is administered by the Rehabilitation Services Administration at the US Department of Education under the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS). Ms. Bailey received a B.A. from Auburn University, Auburn, AL, in Sociology and a M.A. from George Mason University, Fairfax, VA in Human Resource Management.
Ms. Bailey has over 30 years of experience in the disability field, 28 of them working on projects related directly to technology. While employed at a Northern Virginia consulting firm in the early 1980s, she worked on one of the first technology projects funded by the Department of Education - Project EduTech - which provided technical assistance to state and local educators on technology for students with disabilities. From 1986 to 1990, she served as a Resource Coordinator for the Center for Special Education Technology, a national federally funded technical assistance center operated by the Council for Exceptional Children. She has presented at various conferences and meetings and has authored articles and publications. Ms. Bailey joined RESNA in January of 1990.
Ms. Bailey is a member of the ASAE and the Center for Association Leadership.
