In the age of Facebook and e-filing, the ability to write is a functional life skill. However, students who use augmentative/alternative communication often have limited exposure and opportunity to develop writing skills. This interactive presentation will demonstrate strategies to increase student engagement in writing. Content will include an overview of emergent writing, adaptations for vision, receptive communication, and physical access needs. This session will offer creative and easily implemented hands-on examples for adapting writing activities for students with complex profiles. There will also be participant discussion on ways AAC devices can be use for written expression. From object-based communication to dynamic display devices, we will be writing with all you’ve got.
