Figure 2 contains the results of the laser line striper in 3 different situations. For each observation, the top picture shows the camera image without background subtraction and the bottom picture shows the image with background subtraction.

 

The leftmost pair of images show the maximum resolution of the laser line striper by detecting a pen of width 2.2 cm at a distance of approximately 2.2 meters. There is a visible discontinuity in the laser image where it detect the marker pen.

 

The central pair of images show the inability of the line striper to detect black surfaces with very low reflectivity. A black surface absorbs the laser light and no line is visible.

 

In the rightmost pair of images, it is shown that the laser light passes straight through a glass window, with the camera only perceiving a single dot of light.
