The Alexa devices have grown significantly in popularity over the past few years due to their affordability and accurate speech recognition interface. However, use of Alexa devices is often prohibited in hospital rooms due to issues with HIPPA compliance. Recently, an environmental control system was custom developed and implemented at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute that allows the Alexa devices to be used offline for voice control of the call light and television in patient rooms. The purpose of this presentation is to show and outline the design for this custom engineered HIPPA compliant Alexa environmental control system.
