Writing letters of medical necessity (LMN) is easier when you focus on enablement versus impairment. Using the International Classification of Function (ICF) enables the clinician to highlight the benefits of DME in all areas of the ICF. Using the "F-words" to highlight the benefits of the device allows all the parties to see how the user will incorporate the drive into their daily routine to positively affect body structure, function, activity, and participation. When the LMN shows a clear picture of how the user will be able to be included in fun, family friends, fitness and have a better future, the funder will understand the goals and the DME as a means to achieve those goals.
This session will consist of a powerpoint, video case stories, and a lively discussion about funding and the F-words.
