Abstract
MIT's AppInventor is a web-based visual programming environment that can be used to develop apps for mobile devices running the Android operating system and is being expanded to support iOS devices. AppInventor was originally developed to introduce basic programming principles to novices but has steadily grown in sophistication. In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of creating apps using AppInventor. Templates for using AppInventor to prototype assistive technologies for augmentative communication, cognitive aids and accessible games will be demonstrated.
Learning Outcomes
- Identify the critical components needed to develop an AAC app in AppInventor.
- Identify the critical components needed to develop a cognitive aid app in AppInventor.
- Identify the critical components needed to develop an accessible game in AppInventor.
