Abstract:

Core vocabulary learning is essential because it is the language of academics, literacy, and social communication. It applies across all contexts and settings throughout an individual’s lifespan. AAC users require explicit teaching on vocabulary and modeling its use during instructional activities. Discussion, hands-on activities, videos and photographs, and examples in this session will focus on core vocabulary and its implementation across contexts (home, school, community). An example of a school-based initiative to implement core vocabulary for students will also be discussed.
