Summary: 
 
Providing highly efficient, low-cost access to technology for those with limited hand function is a challenge for AT practitioners. This instructional course will provide hands-on and interactive demonstrations of the latest in hands free technology access. Demonstration of novel hands-free technology being developed at the University of Utah will be included as well demonstration videos of people who have returned to high demand careers and classrooms. Participants will come away from this course feeling empowered to address the complexities of helping those with high-level disabilities access technology with high efficiency and effectiveness.

Learning Outcomes: 
  1. Participants will demonstrate competence in the use of 3 or more voice control adaptations for computers, phones and home automation and summarize the benefits and disadvantages of each for type.
  2. Participants will demonstrate how to use 3 separate head/gesture control options for computer control phone access and home automation and which would be most beneficial for various patients.
  3. Participants will summarize and describe 4 or more uses of Bluetooth, switch control, and alternative access options for computer, phone, video gaming accessibility for patients with higher level injury
  4. Participants will demonstrate competence with the setup and use 3 or more eye gaze control adaptations for computers and phones.
  5. By the end of the session participants will be able to articulate and demonstrate competence in the comparison of low vs high cost options for patients with high level injury, and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
  6. Participants will articulate and demonstrate the use of multiple hands-free devices in order to provide highly efficiencent computer access for work and school applications.
