Figure 1 Description

RESNA 28th Annual Conference - Atlanta, Georgia

Figure 1 shows a schematic of a Contour Loading Indenter, also known as a Loaded Contour Jig. Mounted to a top loading plate are two cylinders, each with a 5cm diameter and 5cm in length, representing the ischial tuberosities. The length of the IT cylinder can also be 3cm to accommodate the CMS codes for general use and positioning. The centers of the ITs are 12cm apart for a jig intended for 46-48cm wide cushions. Outside of the ITs, also mounted to the top loading plate are two more cylinders. With centers 38cm apart for the jig intended for a 46-48cm wide cushion, a diameter of 2.5cm, and a height of 0.5cm, these smaller cylinders represent the trochanters. The height difference between the ITs and trochanters must be either 40mm or 25mm. 5cm wide seatbelt webbing is strung across the apparatus to represent the human buttocks. The webbing is anchored between the top loading plate and the trochanter button before passing below both ITs to be anchored again between the trochanter button and top loading plate. A center hole is present in the top loading plate to allow the device to be mounted to a vertical loading rig for testing. To accommodate cushions of different widths, the spacing between the centers of the ITs and trochanters can be altered.
