The Nika Project
The Nika Project is a non-profit made up of all volunteer speech pathologists, special needs teachers, and assistive technology professionals that work to build sustainable educational and communication programs globally. Our process is simple:
- Gather - Collect donated technology tools to repurpose for special education and communication purposes
- Distribute - Deliver tools to target locations either in person or remotely
- Implement - Teach and model best practices to adapt curriculum, develop communication systems and implement tools in ANY language, with ANY age with ANY topic
Since starting our journey in 2013, we have worked collaboratively with educators, learners, families and Universities in South Africa, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, India, Peru, Brazil, UAE, Micronesia and locally here in the US. Using accessible mobile technology tools and working with app developers, we strive to develop educational opportunities in locations without previous exposure or access to modern technology tools.
Dan Phillips is co-founder of the Nika Project, starting this organization in 2013 in South Africa. Dan is a speech pathologist/assistive technology specialist and the founder and director of the Tech Resource Center Marin, a technology center that serves the assistive technology needs of over 4,000 students from the ages of newborn to 22 in Marin County, California.
