RESNA Standard for Inclusive Fitness Environments

Inclusive fitness is creating fitness centers that are welcoming and accessible to people of all abilities. This doesn’t just mean accessible facilities and fitness equipment, but also includes classes that are open to people of all abilities, welcoming staff, and marketing information that is accessible—in short, an inclusive culture.

The newly updated American National Standard for Inclusive Fitness provides inclusive fitness information, standards, regulations, best practices, and policies that facilitate accessible fitness environments for people of all abilities. The standards provides guidelines related to facility policy, built environment, equipment, staff, trainers, users, and outreach and marketing.

  • improve your user and member experience
  • help you understand and overcome inclusive barriers in facility policies, layout, staffing, training, and marketing
  • demonstrate compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act requirement for state and local governments, public accommodations, and commercial facilities to provide equal opportunity for people with disabilities
  • help your staff and trainers meet the needs of all clients
