Spring has officially sprung — and so has a season full of exciting RESNA events!
We’ve been busy this spring with multiple stops on our RESNA on the Road series, including recent visits to AOTA INSPIRE 2025 and the International Seating Symposium (ISS). At ISS, Executive Director Andrea Van Hook, Immediate Past President Dr. Carmen P. DiGiovine, PhD, ATP/SMS, RET, and Board Member Julie Piriano, PT, ATP/SMS gave a highly interactive presentation on RESNA’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, showcasing our continued leadership in advancing the field of assistive technology. At AOTA, 34 ATP-holders presented on topics ranging from computer accommodations to 24-7 posture management and from innovative home health strategies to wheelchair mobility and sitting pressure. I attended many of these poster sessions and networked with many ATPs who I encountered in the hallways of the Philadelphia Convention Center.
And now, it’s hard to believe we’re just weeks away from the return of the RESNA Annual Conference, taking place May 12–16 in Chicago, IL, in conjunction with RehabWeek 2025. I can’t wait to welcome you there!
This year’s conference is packed with opportunities to connect, learn, and be inspired. For me, a personal highlight will be the 2025 Colin McLaurin Distinguished Lecture, presented by Jean L. Minkel, PT, ATP, titled “Mobility Equity: Uncovering Systemic Inequalities Towards Persons with Mobility Disabilities.” Her insights promise to challenge and energize our collective work toward inclusive mobility solutions.
In addition to the lecture, attendees can look forward to:
From groundbreaking research to exciting networking events, we’re thrilled to bring together some of the brightest minds in AT.
This April, we celebrated Volunteer Appreciation Week (April 20–26). I want to personally extend my gratitude to all you incredible volunteers who drive RESNA’s mission forward. Whether you're contributing to standards development, reviewing journal articles, writing position papers, or mentoring new professionals, your time and expertise create a vibrant organization that is exerting a lasting impact. Thank you — not just this month, but all year long!
There’s so much more to come, and I’m excited to share it all with you. Thank you for being a part of the RESNA community — and we’ll see you soon in Chicago!
Thank you,
Jim Lenker, PhD, OT/L, FAOTA, RESNA Fellow
