Letter from the President - February 2021

Date: Monday, February 22, 2021
Category: Blog

Dear RESNA members,

The first few months of 2021 have been something of a whirlwind – change is in the air, and the assistive technology world is no exception. Three viable vaccines for COVID-19 have been introduced, and hopefully many of you have received one of them, partially or in full. The path to “normal” isn’t totally clear, but the presence of the vaccine is certainly a bright light as we start the year.

As we continue to move through the pandemic, we’ve seen the many ways that technology can enable those with disabilities and ultimately foster human connection. Here at RESNA, we’re excited to share several changes that we hope will bring our membership together.

The RESNA Board of Directors recently decided to keep our 2021 conference virtual. This decision reflects our concern for the health and well-being of our membership, our sponsors, and all those we serve, but it also reflects the success of our 2020 conference and our foray into the world of virtual learning and networking. We are excited to build on that success in 2021, bringing back old favorites and introducing new formats that appeal to our entire constituency.

The conference isn’t the only part of RESNA getting a virtual update. By now, I hope you have taken the opportunity to sign on to RESNA Connect.  This new online community will help us streamline our volunteer collaboration efforts and connect RESNA members. We are excited to expand our online community, which is already so rich, filled with thought-provoking discussions among members and a growing library of resources. In addition, the AT Forum will continue to be open to members and non-members.

Lastly, I want to close by reminding everyone that the call for nominations for RESNA Awards will open shortly. RESNA truly relies on the passion and commitment of our volunteers. I am always excited to see those contributions be formally recognized. Please reach out and nominate RESNA members that you see making a difference!

All the best,

Maureen Linden
