NIH Releases 2021 Research Plan on Rehabilitation

The 2021 National Institutes of Health (NIH) Research Plan on Rehabilitation reports on the agency’s progress since the 2016 research plan by examining the investments and activities in six theme areas identified as priorities in the 2016 plan: A: Rehabilitation Across the Lifespan, B: Community and Family, C: Technology Use and Development, D: Research Design and Methodology (includes Clinical Trials), E: Translational Research, and F: Building Research Capacity and Infrastructure.

This plan also outlines the changes in NIH’s rehabilitation research investment, which was $847 million in Fiscal Year 2020, a significant increase from the $514 million in Fiscal Year 2015, prior to the publishing of the 2016 plan. The 2021 plan also includes revised research objectives within the six themes established in 2016 and describes collaborations with other agencies.

RESNA participated in the community input phase of this plan through our Government Affairs Committee (GAC) and Research Committee. If you are a RESNA member, and are interested in volunteering for these kinds of advocacy activities, please contact Executive Director Andrea Van Hook at execoffice@resna.org.
