Title: Unusual barriers to effective pressure relief for clients with neuro-progressive disorders

Abstract: There can be barriers for clients with progressive disorders who are power wheelchair users and their caregivers that prohibit them from performing pressure relief. These are often less common reasons and may not be solved by more education about pressure relief. This webinar will focus on these barriers and potential solutions for this complicated population. Numerous cases will be presented for discussion.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of session, attendees will be able to:
- Identify at least 3 barriers to adequate pressure relief in the neuro-progressive population.
- Identify at least 3 solutions for management of pressure relief in the neuro-progressive population.
- Discuss the multidisciplinary or community providers who can provide management solutions and how to find them.

Presenter Bios:
Amber L. Ward, MS, OTR/L, BCPR, ATP/SMS, FAOTA
Amber Ward is an OT practitioner with almost 30 years of experience. She currently works with clients with progressive disorders and as a wheelchair seating specialist and ATP/SMS in Charlotte as well as an adjunct professor in OT Assistant and Masters OT programs. She has published articles and books and has presented locally to internationally on a wide array of topics. She is passionate about advocacy and occupation in all its forms and can be found in the garden or with a good book when not working.
