Abstract:
We live in an age where smart cars are emerging in an effort to increase vehicle driving safety and reduce accidents. But what about power wheelchairs? Technologies to ease the driving task, decrease collisions and overall increase safety for the power wheelchair driver have been available in the research lab for a number of years. Some of these technologies are just becoming commercially available. Smart power wheelchair technologies may allow certain people to use a power wheelchair who otherwise could not, as well as help current power wheelchair users to drive with improved efficiency and safety.

The participant will be able to identify smart technologies in the context of power wheelchairs.
The participant will be able to list 3 goals of power wheelchair smart technologies.
The participant will be able to identify 3 clinical applications of power wheelchair smart technologies.
