Title: Navigating Automotive Mobility: From Assessment to Independent Driving with NMEDA
Abstract: This panel session will explore the full range of automotive mobility solutions for individuals with disabilities and their support networks. Attendees will gain a foundational understanding of adaptive driving equipment, vehicle modifications, and accessible transportation options. Panelists will walk through the typical process, from initial inquiry and evaluation to driver training, funding, and vehicle selection, offering practical guidance and real-world examples. Presenters will highlight key referral points, assessment considerations, and communication strategies to help ensure timely and appropriate support at each stage. Funding resources and advocacy tools will also be covered, equipping attendees with knowledge to better guide individuals toward safe, independent mobility.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Explain the range of adaptive driving and vehicle modification solutions available to support client independence and mobility.
- Describe the typical service process from referral, clinical evaluation, training, funding, and equipment and vehicle acquisition.
- Apply strategies to advocate effectively for individuals seeking automotive mobility solutions, including connecting them to appropriate resources and funding opportunities.

Meet the Speakers:

Cassy Churchill, works for BraunAbility’s North American Manufacturing division as a Marketing Manager. In this role she oversees the product portfolio development and strategy for dealer and consumer distribution, including website, print, digital communication. She previously worked in the Dealer Development Department as a performance Coach for BraunAbility. In this role she facilitated and presented the AbilityPro Sales Certification Course, as well coached dealers to optimize their performance in either a development capacity or onboarding of new locations. Other industry experience includes retail roles such as, Regional Store Manager, General Manager, and Sales Director for local mobility dealership. She is passionate about helping customers find the best products for mobility challenges and enjoys collaborating with local driver evaluators and community resources.

Monique McGivney, has been an advocate and champion for the disabled community since 2004. Her passion lies in helping individuals regain independence through mobility transportation solutions. Monique’s career in the mobility industry has encompassed all aspects of marketing from the manufacturer’s perspective, including nine years at Vantage Mobility. For the past ten years, she has worked at the local mobility dealer level, bringing her even closer to customers and their unique needs. In addition to assisting clients in regaining independence, Monique has collaborated closely with professionals who serve the disabled community, such as occupational therapists, physical therapists, case managers, and driver evaluators .

Nikki Simmons, OTL CDRS ,is an Occupational Therapist with 25 years of experience working in diverse clinical & rehabilitation settings. She has been a driver rehabilitation specialist since 2013 when she started her own company, Driving Independence. She currently sees clients in a community-based private practice that serves AR, TN and MS for driving evaluations and driver training. She is an active member of ADED & NMEDA serving on various committees.
