Candidate for the ATP FAQs

Do I need to apply for this designation?

Yes. If you wish to progress to the Candidate for the ATP, you will need to successfully pass the ATP exam and submit a completed ATP application. Review of your application will yield the requirements still needed, the timeframe to achieve these requirements as well as information on your continuing education requirements and timelines.

What is the fee to apply for this designation?

There is a $100 application fee for Non RESNA members. The fee is waived for RESNA members.

Can I still submit my application for the ATP even if I did not pass the exam?

You may submit an application for the ATP at any time. Once you have met all eligibility requirements and passed the exam, you will be awarded full ATP status.

How do I achieve the designation of the Candidate for ATP?

A person who has submitted an ATP application AND passed the ATP exam will be designated a Candidate for the ATP.

How long can I remain a Candidate for ATP?

A person who has been designated as a Candidate for the ATP must be able to meet all eligibility requirements within the stated timeframe on the eligibility matrix (Ex. 2000 in 6 years).

Can I practice as an “ATP in Training?”

The designation of Candidate for the ATP does not permit a person to practice as an ATP or refer to themselves as an ATP. The designation has been developed to allow professionals the ability to demonstrate their commitment and knowledge to prospective employers, thus creating a strong pathway to a career in AT.

How can I use the Candidate for ATP designation?

The designation has been developed to allow professionals the ability to demonstrate their commitment and knowledge to prospective employers, thus creating a strong pathway to a career in AT.

What happens if I fail the exam? When can I retake it?

If a person has been unsuccessful in their exam, they must wait 90 days before retaking the exam. The cost for an exam retake is $250.  Please fill out the following form to be considered for a retake.
