Session Track: NEW: New and Emerging Technology
Abstract:
Autonomous vehicles are on their way, but with new technology accessibility is too often either an after-thought or only meets minimum compliance. After conducting a literature search on the state of the art of shared autonomous vehicles and accessibility, we have an understanding of to what degree accessibility is and isn’t being considered. This workshop will bring you up to speed on the state of the science of SAVs from the accessibility and human user perspective. Next we’ll ask for your contributions to designs that should be incorporated into the best practice of inclusive and accessible SAV designs.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Recognize three different SAV sharing models.
2. Recognize five different aspects of AV technology and the human interaction regardless of the vehicle’s size.
3. Identify 3 accessibility features of SAVs (either currently in place or crucial to future models).
