Orthotists and Prosthetists

Orthotists and Prosthetists

This PSG is currently dormant. If you are interested in re-activating this group within RESNA, please contact the Chair of the Professional Specialty Groups Committee, Karen Milchus at karen.milchus@coa.gatech.edu.

What is the PSG about?

Orthotics and prosthetics are an important area of assistive technology devices and services. In fact, these professionals were key developers of assistive technologies before there were off-the-shelf AT products. If you take a look back on the people that really started the Rehab Centers in the US back in the 1970's, it reads like a who's who of Orthotic and Prosthetic pioneers. The O&P Groups used to have a lot of involvement in RESNA but over the years, this interest has not continued. The O&P community is still involved in wheelchair seating and in some other aspects of rehabilitation and assistive technology.

Mission

Members who have a shared interest in AT solutions can help develop this mission.

Objectives

  • Provide a forum for the discussion of orthotic and prosthetic technology as a component of RESNA
  • Distribute information about O & P technology to RESNA members and other interested parties
  • Inform professionals in the field about concerns expressed by both people who use orthotics and prosthetic devices.
