SLP PSG's Mission

The SLP PSG's mission is to build awareness of assistive technology for communication and cognition within the therapy and engineering professions, to foster relationships among practitioners and researchers, who wish to explore this exciting and growing rehabilitation field, and encourage new ideas to improve functional outcomes for individuals with communication and cognitive disability.

SLP PSG's Objectives

  • Provide a forum for the discussion of communication disabilities and supportive technology
  • Distribute information about communication disabilities and technology to RESNA members and other interested parties
  • Inform professionals in the field about concerns expressed by both people with communication disabilities and by developers of assistive technology devices

Tara has been involved in the provision of assistive technology services for 15 years and her particular areas of interest are in the implementation of cognitive technologies, training in alternative methods of computer access, and use of alternative and augmentative communication strategies. She is a member of the Barrow Adaptive Technologies Task Force at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and has been instrumental in introducing new technologies across the continuum of care since its inception.  She provides education and mentorship to colleagues and has acted as consultant in both the school system and private rehabilitation sector for complex cases requiring the implementation of AT equipment and services.
